717 FLUSHI- AN INTERVENTION TO IMPROVE CATHETER CARE AND REDUCE UNNECESSARY CATHETERISATION DAYS

Abstract Introduction Catheter-Associated Urinary Tract Infections (CAUTIs) are a common and preventable healthcare-associated infection that cost NHS hospitals an estimated £54.4 M per year. The risk of developing CAUTI is intrinsically linked to the duration indwelling catheter. Our project was created in response clinical incident where patient mislabelled as having long-term catheter (LTC) discharged, subsequently enduring several unnecessary days. We have interventions with primary aim reducing number Short-term Catheters (STC) LTCs by 100%, secondary aims days, increasing discharge summaries correct information inappropriate catheterisations. Method All patients admitted one Care Elderly from August 2020 new STC were included this project. designed FLUSHI sticker tool for recording care which specifically delineated between STCs. In addition, it allowed space essential simplified approach indications ongoing catheters. This implemented alongside Catheter Training Programme.
